Section 5

Artificial Insemination

*Warning: This section contains content some readers may find disturbing*

Artificial insemination, in the dairy and meat industry, is essentially the impregnation of female animals using sperm from its male counterpart. Pigs, sheep, cows, turkeys and other animals are commonly artificially inseminated in the meat and diary industry. Approximately 80% of dairy producers use artificial insemination as a reproductive technique. For cows, the process often involves buying frozen samples of semen from different genetic companies who sell it to farms. (21).

Then, trained technicians insert the semen into the animal by putting their arm into the animal’s rectum to guide a semen gun into the cervix/uterus of the female animal. The normalization of this practice is unfortunate because artificial insemination is immoral and violates the animals. An extremely large number of people are against this practice and that is because of its disturbing nature, its insensibility, and it is a direct violation of the animal’s natural reproductive process.

Allowing artificial insemination has had great consequences in different species. In the case of turkeys, they have been bred so large that they can no longer naturally mate. The flock is dependent on artificial breeding to survive (22). In pigs, microbial contamination of sperm can result in embryonic or fetal death, endometritis and systemic infection and/or disease in the recipient female (23). In cattle, artificial breeding has potential to “disseminate genetic defects and also to spread infectious disease nationally and internationally.” (24)

The reasons why artificial insemination is bad can continually go on for many pages, but the essential reasons for Section 5 of this bill, is because it is an exploitative practice that is foul, revolting, inappropriate, inhumane, and a complete disrespect to nature.

Section 5 Legislation

5.1 The legislature finds artificial insemination of animals to be unethical and hereby declares the practice illegal across all 50 states.

5.2 All artificial insemination is to be stopped immediately upon passage of this bill.

5.3 Any person or persons found to be practicing artificial insemination of animals shall be subject to a fine and imprisonment.
